YOU MAY SAY I'M A DREAMER BUT I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE

This is us, a motley crew of friends who went to middle school on Pearl Jam and graduated high school listening to Guster. We’ve separated over the years, but music has always been our common goal, and so it’s not surprising to anyone, let alone us, when we decide to go on a road trip, and have the Best Summer Ever. It is the summer after our senior year, and this is the way we decide to express our characteristic, cliché, graduate selves – with this last fling before we’re thrown to the winds at the colleges of our choice across the country.

We’re planning on stopping at every roadside stand we see, each antique store, each motel run by some kindly old lady. When we’re running high we’ll listen to Olivia Newton-John, Rick Astley, Madonna, NENA, all the 80s classics. We’re going to play road bingo, and count cows. We’re going to climb fences and sneak into hotel pools. We’re not going to get carded at bars, and we’re going to go skinny-dipping. We’re going to take so many photos and eat so much food the floor will be crowded with Polaroids and take-out boxes. We’ll drive in the rain to James Taylor, Imogen Heap, and Jack Johnson, and play Truth or Dare in the backseat. And when we get really bored and there aren’t any huge statues or water towers nearby, to climb, or take pictures around, we’ll listen to Aerosmith and the Cardigans, Sister Hazel and Nirvana, Savage Garden and the Red Hot Chili Peppers – all the songs we lived our best memories to. Then as soon as we’ve just had quite enough of the car for a while, we’ll all go lay down in a field for a while and dream for a bit.

We’ll call home from pay phones outside gas stations, we’ll send postcards from every town we visit and some we don’t, and this will officially be the Best Summer Ever because we have no idea where we’re headed, and it’s how we get there that counts. When we return we'll say our final goodbyes, do our last sendoffs, throw our last parties, and know that we're different because we drove around the country without a destination in mind.

Listen to the North Carolina Song
Lyrics to the North Carolina Song:
Let's go off for an hour
Let's head out for a year
Before this all turns sour
Let's put it in the rear

We could leave tonight
The tank is almost full
Just grab a suitcase and
Then we'll, we'll slip away

I'll take the wheel a while
So you can take a nap
In a few hundred more miles
We'll stop and get a map

Let's take this road cause it must lead somewhere
And where it does well we don't care
As long as it's miles from here
Well I can't tell quite what I'm feelin
See one headlight, punch the ceiling

Have another cigarette
Cause I don't think we're there just yet

Doesn't need to be complicated
Doesn't need to cause you stress
We'll just quit these jobs we hated
And leave no fowarding address
If we drive around enough I think we're fine
It's out of sight and out of mind
